According to the Sheriff’s Department, deputies were called to investigate a complaint from Charter Oak of gas being stolen from several vans.
Deputies found that two of the vans had gas stolen from them and another van’s gas tank had a hole punched into it and was leaking fuel.
In addition, an employee found a note inside one of the vans that appeared to have the word bomb written on it.
Both Charter Oak and the Head Start Learning Center adjacent to the Charter Oak were evacuated.
The Virginia State Police cleared the scene later Friday afternoon, and a hazard waste company was dispatch to clean up the fuel spill.
Anyone with information on this crime is urged to contact the Charlotte County Sheriff’s Office at (434) 542-4151.
