LUNENBURG COUNTY – For many high school athletes, sports goes by the wayside as you transition to college and begin work on determining your future field of expertise and employment. For Kaitlyn Matthews, her love of softball has not stopped as she is in her junior year at Longwood.

After a standout career at Central High School in softball, Kaitlyn now plays for the Longwood University Club softball team. She not only plays on the team but is also helping coach the group to give her an understanding of that aspect of the game.

The team travels around to other colleges to play other club teams such as UVa and VT, as well as Coastal Carolina.

She is getting some help from a familiar face as her father, Tony Matthews, is also helping out the team as the parent coach for the group. The group had their best season in recent years under the direction of Matthews, along with two other teammates and co-coaches.
