Mr. Phillip Martin Jefferson, age 72, of Charlotte Court House, died on Saturday, August 20, 2016, in Virginia Baptist Hospital.

Phillip is survived by his loving wife of 30 years, Nancy Ellen Hardee Jefferson; son, Michael Phillip Jefferson (Chris); step-son, Franklin Hardee McCargo (Annette), step-daughters, Lisa McCargo Wilson (Timmy), and Tracy McCargo Newton (Tony); grandson, Michael Phillip Jefferson Jr.; step-grandchildren, Shannon Adams, Allyson Adams, Lindsey Booth, Kayla McCargo, Cody Wilson, Dakota Wilson, Danny Newton, April Newton, Nicole Newton; step great-grandchildren, Isabella Newton, Declan Newton.  He is also survived by dear cousins.  He was preceded in death by his first wife, Linda Nelson Jefferson; father, Willie Douglas Jefferson; mother, Eula Marston Jefferson; brother, Freddie Douglas Jefferson; step grandson, Michael Newton.

Phillip was born in Halifax County and at a young age moved to Charlotte County where he resided for 67 years.  He attended Charlotte County public schools.  He was an Electrical Lineman in his younger years until he became disabled in 1978.  Phillip was a member of Mt. Tirzah Baptist Church in Charlotte Court House.  The last two years of his life he resided at Heritage Green Assisted Living and Memory Care in Lynchburg.

A funeral service will be conducted on Wednesday, August 24, 2016, at 2 p.m., in Mt. Tirzah Baptist Church in Charlotte Court House, with interment to follow in Cullen Baptist Church Cemetery, Cullen.  The family will receive friends at the Browning-Duffer Funeral Home in Keysville, on Tuesday, August 23, 2016, from 7 to 8 p.m.  In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial contributions may be made in his memory to Mt. Tirzah Baptist Church Land Fund, P.O. Box 96, Charlotte Court House, VA, 23923.  The Browning-Duffer Funeral Home in Keysville, Va. is serving the family.
