julie-baileyPHENIX – Phenix native Julie Bailey has been awarded the Most Dedicated Firefighter Award by the Farmville Fire Department. Bailey was honored by Fire Chief Andrew Gross who noted that Bailey attends all the training classes, answers most calls and participates in exercises and helps with fundraisers

Bailey joined the Farmville Fire Department in February of this year and before that was a member of the Darlington Heights Volunteer Fire Department which she joined in 2011.

Currently, Bailey is one of only two women firefighters on the Farmville Fire Department and she pointed out that her dad, Walt Bailey, Phenix Vol. Fire Chief, was a big influence on why she decided to become a firefighter. “Growing up I saw a hero that would do anything to help anyone 24/7/365. I hope that one day I can live up to his example,” she said.

Bailey continued to say that she loves having an extended family in the fire department. “They help me achieve my goals and be the best that I can be.”

As for receiving the Most Dedicated Firefighter Award, Bailey said, “I am honored and humbled that the department and its officers have recognized me with this award. I feel many others on our department are just as deserving.”

In addition to Bailey, firefighters Patrick Eason and Ronald Shult were also recognized for their dedication and service to the Farmville Fire Department.
