Virginia State Trooper J. Wilborn responded to a single vehicle fatality at 6:20 a.m. on Sunday, December 22 in Phenix.

According to the report, 29 year old Casey Clowdis of Brookneal was travelling southbound on Red House Road towards the town of Phenix. At the intersection of Red House Road and Route 40, Clowdis failed to stop at the stop sign and continued through the intersection towards the recycling center.

The vehicle ran off the right side of the road and overturned several times, ejecting Clowdis. He was declared dead at the scene. Trooper Wilborn indicated that Clowdis was not wearing his seatbelt. It is unclear at this time if alcohol was a factor in the crash.
