Peter Charles Micken, Jr., Farmville, 71

Peter “Pete” Charles Micken, Jr., 71, passed away on December 26, 2013 in Farmville, Virginia.  He was born in New London, Connecticut on January 4, 1942 and grew up in nearby Stamford.  He was the son of the late Peter Charles Micken, Sr. and Emma Margaret Magowan. Pete joined the U.S. Navy and served his country for 26 years, during which he earned a Bachelor of Science Degree from Southern Illinois University, and then retiring as a Senior Chief Electronics Technician.  Upon retirement, he was employed as an adjunct instructor at Southside Virginia Community College and proprietor of the Virginia Hiking Stick Company.  He loved the outdoors and enjoyed fishing, sailing, and radio-controlled toys; he was also an expert marksman.  Pete is survived by his loving wife of 23 years, Audrey Jean Micken, sister Maryann Bernstein of Stamford, CT, two daughters, Cheryl Myran (Steve) of Norfolk, Va. and Vanessa Micken of Virginia Beach, Va., four grandchildren, Rebecca and Thomas Keel, Miranda Micken, and Aaron Myran, three stepchildren, Shirley Dilts (Jim), Donna McSweeney (Dan), and Joe Engel (Theresa), six step-grandchildren, Christopher and Nicholas Loscomb, Olivia and Victoria Dilts, Aidan and Lily McSweeney, three step-great-grandchildren, Jacob, Ezekiel, and Brook Loscomb. In lieu of flowers the family requests donations be made in his name to the Southside SPCA, PO Box 66, Meherrin, VA 23954.  A memorial service will be held at New Life Assembly of God, 9 Mahan Road, Farmville, Va. at a later date.
