CHARLOTTE COURT HOUSE – Dominique Dews scored a perfect score of 1,000 on the Microsoft Office PowerPoint 2013 Specialist test, as well as placed second in the State and National Championships.  Students have fifty minutes on each certification test; however, Dominique finished before the allowed time.  This achievement automatically qualifies her for Certiport’s 2015 Microsoft Office Specialist World Championship.  Dominique, daughter of Veronica and David Dews of Phenix, Virginia, is a junior at Randolph-Henry High School, president of FBLA (Future Business Leaders of America), and a member of BLOG (Be Leaders of Our Generation).

Dominique DewsSchools like Randolph-Henry offering the Microsoft Office Specialist program promote college and career readiness while adding the benefits of relevant, state-of-the-art learning.  Dominique’s teacher, Ms. Karen Osborne, a 1990 Randolph-Henry graduate, joined the faculty in 2012 with ten years of experience as a CTE teacher and administrator/proctor of the MOS Certification tests.  With certification tests pass rates of 99% each year, Ms. Osborne stated that this is the second time that she has had a student receive a perfect score.

Holding Microsoft certifications can help students gain an edge over their peers, as these certifications are accepted worldwide and are much better than certifications from unknown computer training institutes.  Students who earn their Microsoft Office Specialist certification are rewarded with heightened confidence, credibility and differentiation in increasingly competitive academic and workforce environments. They are qualified to meet greater challenges, possess the knowledge and ability to be more productive, and share information in a compelling, intuitive manner.

The Microsoft Office Specialist World Championship, presented by Certiport, Inc., is a global competition that tests students’ skills on Microsoft Office Word, Excel® and PowerPoint® (2010 or 2013). At this time, the Spring Qualifier will be reviewing exams submitted from December 18, 2015 through May 13, 2016.  The scores from these exams will determine who will be qualified to attend the U.S. Championship, which will be held in Florida.  Certiport sends out invitations to those students who qualify.  We are certainly wishing Dominique the best at the U.S. Championship.
