PEFYA Majors TeamBLACKSTONE – The Prince Edward-Farmville Youth Association Majors All-Star baseball team traveled to Blackstone this past weekend to play in the District 5 tournament. PEFYA would advance through the tournament with just one loss and find themselves against the Dinwiddie Nationals needing to beat them twice to claim the championship.

PEFYA would get off to a strong start as Nate Reed would single with two outs in the top of the first inning. Michael Dailey came up to the plate and blasted a two run homerun that put PEFYA up early in the game.

Dailey took the mound for PEFYA and looked strong early on as he recorded four strikeouts in the first two innings. The score would remain the same until the top of the third inning when Nate Reed blew the game open with a grand slam homerun that gave PEFYA a 6-0 lead.

It looked as if the teams would be headed to another game on Wednesday night, but the Dinwiddie Nationals had other plans as their potent offense finally got on track in the bottom of the fourth inning. They mounted a huge comeback that included a grand slam of their own. Jake Simon came in for a relief appearance and slowed down the DN offense, but not before they scored 8 runs and took the lead in the game.

The score stayed at 8-6 until the final at bat for PEFYA. Dailey would reach base and score on a single off the bat of Michael Seward. With Seward on base as the tying run, DN got the final out they needed and claimed he 8-7 victory and District 5 championship.
