 Passing Forged Check Results in Jail Time

Carlton Irvin Edmonds, Jr., a 30 year old Lunenburg County man of 642 KV Road, Lunenburg County, was convicted recently in Lunenburg Circuit Court of one felony count of Uttering a Forged Check and sentenced to eleven months in jail.

According to Commonwealth’s Attorney Robert Clement, the charge arose when a check was stolen from an elderly man in Kenbridge and cashed for $145 at a convenience store in Victoria.  Edmonds was identified by the merchant , having provided his identifying information to the merchant. Victoria Police Officer Daniel Medlin conducted the investigation.

When interviewed by Officer Medlin, Edmonds denied taking the check and cashing it, but pled guilty in circuit court.

The defendant’s sentence was within the recommendation of the sentencing guidelines, according to Clement.

In addition, the defendant had an additional four years and one month suspended subject to conditions of good behavior for five years, supervised probation for one year, warrantless searches for five years. The defendant paid restitution prior to his court hearing.
