Operation Blessing Needs Your Help

The Charlotte County charitable organization “Operation Blessing” is asking for help from the community as it begins to reorganize after the loss of one of its most gracious benefactors. The late Robert Ponton of Drakes Branch was not only an instrumental figure in the formation and operation of the group that provides charitable, one-time help to local families in need, he also provided the building that the group used as a headquarters. After a temporary loss of focus due largely to grief over his passing, the dedicated members of Operation Blessing met and have decided to regroup and get back to the business of helping those families that need it. They are currently looking for a place to conduct business.

While the group has no affiliation with “Operation Blessing International,” they work in Charlotte County in much the same way; helping those that need it.

According to member Allyson Watkins, “I guess the reason I’m drawn to this organization is that I see a need to help those in the community. I work as a librarian at Phenix Elementary School and daily I see families that could use a little help.” Ms. Watkins further stated by email that according to Charlotte County social services, the greatest areas of need this winter have been food and heat.

If you would like to be a part of “Operation Blessing” they will be holding a meeting on February 10 at 7:00 p.m. at Gethsemane Presbyterian Church in Drakes Branch.
