One Killed in Tuesday Morning Car Crash

Virginia State Police Trooper D.A. Thompson is investigating a fatal crash that occurred early Tuesday morning (Jan. 6) in Charlotte County. The crash occurred at 1:19 a.m. on Route 678, less than a mile east of Route 724.

A 1995 Jeep Wrangler was traveling along Route 678 when it ran off the right side of the road and struck a tree.

The driver, Jacob M. Mills, 20, of Brookneal, Va., died at the scene. He was not wearing a seat belt.

A passenger, Colton H. Spear, 18, was transported to a nearby hospital for treatment of serious injuries. He was also not wearing a seat belt.

The cause of the crash remains under investigation.
