One Dead in Keysville Stabbing

On Saturday, June 6 at approximately 7:55 p.m., the Charlotte County Sheriff’s Office responded to a call on Forest Trails Road in the Keysville area concerning a domestic incident that had occurred between a male and female, resulting in the male victim being cut.

When deputies arrived on the scene, 59-year-old Gideon “Pete” Walton, Jr., a passenger in a vehicle, was found to be unresponsive. The rescue squad determined Walton to be deceased.

The complainant said 57-year-old Joyce Coleman and the victim were living together and that she was the person with whom the victim was having the domestic dispute at the Virginia Court Apartments.

Deputies were informed that a knife was involved in the incident. Deputies went to the apartments and found Coleman in another person’s domicile. Coleman was detained and transported to the Charlotte County Sheriff’s Office where she was later charged with first degree murder.

Coleman is currently being held in the Charlotte County Jail with no bond.
