Obamacare v. Obama’s Care: Symbolism v. Reality

logo-editorialPresident Obama, his family and his staff have great health coverage. There are on-call doctors, house-calls (White-House calls) and it is all free. This is reasonable. Obama is the leader of the greatest country on earth. He is Commander-in-Chief of the greatest military power on earth. In the real world of business he would be known as a “critical employee.” Many businesses provide extra benefits for employees that are necessary for continued operation.

What is wrong is for the President, a king or a dictator to pretend solidarity with the masses. “I’m one of you. I understand your pain.” Except I am going to live better, eat better, dress better and get better health care.

In spite of already having the best health care in the world, Obama signed up for Obamacare.

He had the same choice of the four plans as you and I. Except there aren’t four plans. There is only one plan with four different deductibles and prices. You don’t have a choice of plans.

He didn’t lose his current health care plan like over four million Americans. Obamacare supporters brag that two million Americans have registered for Obamacare. They ignore the four million who lost their coverage. You will never see a headline reading, “Net loss of 2tw million insured.”

President Obama did exactly what you or I will have to do. Well, not really. Obama didn’t sit down at his computer, work through the maze and register. He used another option which is also available to us, the unwashed masses. Since his personal information is considered a “National Security’ issue and since the website still has “serious security vulnerabilities” the President wisely chose not to enter personal information. According to a White House spokesman, “Like some Americans, the complicated nature of the president’s case required an in-person sign-up.”

Except it didn’t. President Obama didn’t go to a health care exchange and register. The President went to Waikiki and sent an aide to register for him. His minion signed him up for the cheapest Bronze plan. He didn’t insure his wife or children. Why would he? He has no intention of using it. You should never spend more for symbolism than you have to.

The White house called it symbolic, a show of solidarity and of leading by example. It was symbolic. It symbolizes the chasm between Obama, our other leaders and the rest of us. It WAS symbolic. “I’m just like you except my personal information is personal. I’m just like you and I can pay $400 a month to prove it. I’m just like you, I picked the cheapest plan and didn’t insure my wife and children. I’m just like you except I’m better than you are and I deserve better than you with less effort on my part.

“I’m just like you BUT I liked my health care plan so I kept it.”
