“Obamacare” or “Hit ‘em Where it Hurts”

There is a joke going around that the Government is warning people about fake Obamacare websites that steal information for identity theft. “The way you know you are on a fake site is if it works. You know you are on the real Obamacare site if it doesn’t work.”

We’ve been receiving reports from people who are attempting to sign up for Obamacare. All are reporting difficulty in using the site, excessive time on the site, higher than expected premiums and higher deductibles than their previous insurance.

This brings up one un-addressed question. If the site is difficult to use, who is going to assist those who are having trouble signing up?

Most we have spoken with have preexisting conditions and will be making immediate claims against their policies. This is a prescription for disaster.

Another issue is the deductible. If the information we have received is correct the lowest cost policy has a deductible of around $5,000 dollars. For many lower income working families a $5,000 dollar deductible is the same as no insurance.

A $5,000 expense could be 3 months total income which can be impossible to pay.

All this does is protect hospitals from losses in the case of a serious medical problem. It does little or nothing to protect low income families. If, as is the case with most Americans, your home is your biggest asset, it can be protected in the case of a major medical expense.

Approximately 80 percent of the total health care expenditures in the US are generated by 20 percent of the population. This means that in order for Obamacare to work the 80 percent who are using 20 percent of the health care will have to pay the same as the 20 percent who are using the 80 percent.

This of course excludes Congress and THEIR employees who (according to Congress) deserve better and cheaper health care than the voters.

Once again rhetoric won against the facts, statistics and common sense. And once again the American people will have to pay.

Let us know how your efforts to sign up for Obamacare turned out.
