No Hit List

Last week, at the direction of the Charlotte County School Board, Superintendent Nancy Leonard sent a memo to all Charlotte County School employees stating:

We had a good staff meeting with the leadership team on Thursday. We are working on summer school plans and SOL testing scheduling. As directed by the Board, I had the conversation with the leadership team about “tamping down the rhetoric” and there is “no list.”

However, School Board member JonPaul Berkley again attempted to include a last minute addition to the agenda at the February School Board meeting.  Chairman Larry Fannon delayed the request as it violated policy.

The Messenger attempted to obtain a copy of the request under The Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) and received the document with two names redacted from the request citing personnel exemption.

The Messenger is concerned that two people were included on the list and that an attempt was made to circumvent school policy regarding additions to the agenda.

The Messenger also believes that this document should be provided in its entirety under FOIA and has requested Superintendent Nancy Leonard to revue our FOIA request.
