Night Club Shooting in Burkeville Kills One, Injures Two

Investigation continues following arrest of one Blackstone man

BURKEVILLE – The Nottoway Sheriff’s Office and  Virginia State Police continue to investigate the shooting that occurred at Paris Inn (Night Club/Restaurant) in Burkeville during the early morning hours of this Saturday, September 10, 2016.

The owner of the business called emergency responders at approximately 1:40 AM and requested deputies to respond to the night club because he was closing for the night. Three Nottoway County Deputies (Seth Myers, Matt Spencer, CJ Felder) were on the property at 2 AM  when there were shots fired outside of the business. The shots came from behind the establishment in the parking area.

The deputies proceeded to that area and found a large crowd of people in the location near where the shots were heard. They also found one subject that had been injured and was pronounced dead at the scene.    

Shortly after that time, two individuals from the areas of Chester and Hopewell arrived at Southside Community (Centra) Hospital in Farmville. They checked into the the hospital  at approximately 2:30 AM and were taken there by private vehicles.

The two men were suffering from  gunshot wounds and were later transferred to VCU Medical Center in Richmond with non-life threatening injuries. Since the incident, both have been released from the  hospital.  During the shooting, Nottoway County Sheriff Larry Parrish said that there were at least 20 rounds of shots fired during the incident resulting in the one death and two injuries.

The unidentified deceased body was transported to the State Medical Examiner’s Office in Richmond for autopsy and Sheriff Parrish said that the name is still being withheld pending notification of next of kin.

There were approximately 150 people in attendance and deputies from Prince Edward and Amelia County responded along with Crewe Police Department, Blackstone Police Department, Ft. Pickett Officers and Virginia State Police to help with crowd.  Burkeville Fire Department and Nottoway Emergency Squad responded to provide medical assistance.

Deshane Henderson, a 30-year-old Blackstone resident who was at the scene of shooting was arrested by deputies at approximately 11 AM Saturday morning and charged with possession of firearm after being convicted of a felony. Henderson is being held in Piedmont Regional Jail without bond.
