Are you a self-proclaimed bookworm? If so, SVCC’s John H. Daniel Campus has an exciting venture for you!  With the completion of the new Learning Resource building, SVCC has introduced a brand new book club called Page Turners.  Page Turners is open to all students, faculty, staff, and community members alike!

“When we were finally able to move into our beautiful new Learning Resource building, the library staff wanted to make every effort to use our new resources to not only benefit our students, but the community as well,” said Tawnya Swindell, Librarian and Serial Specialist. “We have five technology savvy study rooms, as well as a computer lab with the capacity to seat 48 individuals, each at an internet-ready computer equipped with the latest computer software. Laptop computers have been added to our lending services, with iPads becoming available in the near future.”

Page Turners will feature a wide variety of books on their reading list to accommodate all genres and interests.  Past books included The Help by Kathryn Stockett and The Immortal Life of Henrietta Lacks by Rebecca Skloot.  Currently, the book club is reading Fatal Vision by Joe McGinniss.  According to Swindell, “This is the true story of Dr. Jeffrey MacDonald and the events surrounding the murders of his pregnant wife and two small children. Dr. MacDonald was ultimately convicted of the slayings, which took place in their home in Fort Bragg, North Carolina.”

Currently, there are six full-time members of the new book club.  Meetings are held every other Wednesday at 12:30 p.m. in the library conference room.  For more information, please email Tawnya Swindell at tawnya.swindell@southside.edu.
