FARMVILLE – Farmville Town Council members learned last week that a North Carolina Developer is proposing to build a new student housing complex.

Developer Mike Kelley of Kelley Properties has been working with Farmville landowners Robert and Sherry Martin to build a four story, 195-bed housing complex across from Longwood University.

The complex would not be mandated by Longwood University.

The new complex is proposed to be constructed at the intersection of High and Appomattox Streets, and four homes owned by the Martins will be demolished to make room for the student housing building.

The Martins recently requested a conditional use permit to construct the project noting that there will be a live-in property manager on site at all times.

During the meeting, one resident who lives adjacent to the proposed complex asked the developer, “ Do you think it would have been appropriate to talk to the people who live in the area about this?” His question received no answer.

According to town officials, a series of public hearings will be held on the proposed project in the near future.
