Mothers Are Special!

logo- community news & viewsAfter many years of marriage, a wife wanted her husband to take another woman out to dinner and a movie. “I love you,” she said, “but this other woman loves you and would like to spend some quality time with you.”

The other woman was this man’s mother who had been a widow for 20 years.  The demands of the man’s work and family had left little time to visit his mother. Well, he called and made the date with his mother who was pleasantly surprised at the invitation.  “I would like to go out with you very much,” she replied.

That Friday after work, the man picked up his mother who was nervously waiting for his arrival.  She had curled her hair and was wearing her best dress.

They went to a restaurant which, although not elegant, was very nice and cozy.  After sitting down, he had to read the menu to her because she could only read large print.  Halfway through reading, the man noticed his mother staring at him.  “It was I who used to read the menu to you when you were small,” she said. “Then it’s time that you relax and let me return the favor,” he responded.

During dinner, the two talked about things in general and caught up on each other’s life.  They talked so much that they missed the movie.

After arriving at her house later, the mother said, “I’ll go out with you again but only if you let me invite you.”  The son agreed.

He told his wife how nice it was to spend quality time with his mother and thanked her for the suggestion.  A few days later, his mother died of a massive heart attack.  It happened so suddenly that he didn’t have a chance to do anything for her.

A short time later, he received an envelope with a copy of a restaurant receipt from the same place they had dined.  The attached note said: “I paid this bill in advance.  I wasn’t sure that I could be there; but nevertheless, I paid for two plates—one for you and the other for your wife.  You will never know what that night meant to me.  I love you, son.”

At that moment, the son understood the importance of saying in time, “I love you,” and to give loved ones the time that they deserve.  Nothing in life is more important than your family.  Give them the time they deserve because these things can’t be put off until “some other time.”
