LUNENBURG – The past weekend and into Memorial Day on Monday offered many Lunenburg residents an opportunity to be a part of local celebrations to remember and honor the many people that have served, are serving and also that have sacrificed their life for the United States through military service.

Mem Day 5The weekend is often seen as a signal to the start of summer, end of the school year and also as a chance for an extra day off from work, but it is most importantly a time to remember and reflect on just how many people have been a part of protecting  and have given their lives to serve the United States through the years.

One of the yearly Memorial Day services around Lunenburg includes the presentation put together by the VFW 9954 members and the American Legion that is held annually at  Lakeview Cemetery in Victoria.

This ceremony features the placing of flags on the gravesites of the men and women who served the United States Military and offers a chance to honor and remember these heroes. The featured speaker during the event was Reverend Mike Johnson who eloquently spoke and offered prayer for not only the military personel, but the families of those individuals.

The ceremony included the salute and placing of the Memorial Wreath at the location, while also offering words of remebrance for those who have died in our nation’s service.
