Meherrin Man Charged with Attempted Murder

scottMEHERRIN – Following a shooting incident on Saturday in Meherrin, police have arrested James R. Scott and charged him with attempted murder.

Scott, a Meherrin resident, reportedly shot at people who were at a home along the 4000 block of Meherrin Road after an ongoing dispute with the occupants of that home.

Scott was arrested after a standoff with Sheriff’s deputies after they were called to the scene, according to information from the Prince Edward County Sheriff’s Office.

Scott eventually surrendered to the officers without further incident. He was taken into custody and charged with assault, brandishing a firearm, reckless handling of a firearm, shooting into an occupied dwelling and second degree attempted murder.

Scott was transported to Piedmont Regional Jail and was held without bond pending initial trial dates.
