Travelers near South HIll warnedMECKLENBURG – The South Hill Police Department is warning people in Mecklenburg and others that are traveling through the area about a scam.

SHPD has received information that a male subject is “trading” rings like the one pictured for gas money at gas stations along the I-85 corridor, including South Hill. The rings have an emblem stamped in them like a Greek key or a Mercedes emblem. The subject will approach victims pretending to be down on his luck, traveling and in need of gas money. He then offers to trade his gold ring for some cash. The ring is stamped 18K but is in fact made of brass and is worthless.

SHPD offered thanks to Harper’s Jewelry Co. for their assistance with this case.
