Marijuana Plants Seized near Chase City

On August 5, 2014, members of the Southside Drug & Gang Task Force which consists of the Chase City Police Department, Clarksville Police Department, Mecklenburg County Sheriff’s Office, South Hill Police Department, Virginia ABC, Virginia State Police and the Mecklenburg County Sheriff’s Office Tactical Team seized 116 marijuana plants from a field between Lafayette Road and Wilkerson Road, in Clarksville, Va.  The average size of these plants ranged from 8 to 10 feet tall. Estimated street value of the marijuana confiscated is approximately $348,000.00.  A suspect was taken into custody in the field where the marijuana was located.

Elston Eugene Burwell

Elston Eugene Burwell, black male, age 57 of 649 Wilkerson Road, Clarksville, was charged under the VA Code 18.2-248.1 distribution or possession with intent to sell, give or distribute marijuana.  He is being held at Meherrin River Regional Jail in Alberta under a $10,000 bond with a hearing date of November 13, 2014 at the Mecklenburg County General District Court.
