Cfs Helps Schools, Community Organizations with Donations

Container First Services took over the Lunenburg landfill in February 2013, and since that time, the company has grown and even brought a trucking business to the county. On top of the host agreement with CFS and the new businesses in the county, landfill committee members Bob Zava and Alvester Edmonds along with Lunenburg County Attorney Frank Rennie came to an agreement with the waste disposal company that is used to help in making a difference in the community.

Along with the overall clean-up of the landfill and helping Lunenburg financially, CFS makes an annual contribution of $50,000 within the Lunenburg community. for public education/public safety purposes.

President and CEO Rob Guidry along with Tim Webb made presentations to several organizations last Thursday night as part of this $50,000 contribution from the company.  Guidry stated, “We embarked on this relationship several years ago and for you residents and people of the county, you need to understand that it was a very tough negotiation and they did not leave anything on the table unturned when it came to finances to benefit the county.”

Mr. Guidry continued, “This money is set aside and designated for certain things we feel strongly about that include public education, public safety and education or help for kids in the community.”

He continued, “This has been a great relationship, we continue to improve on everything we do.”

Mr. Guidry would note that his company continues to push growth toward the Roanoke and Blacksburg direction that would eventually run towards Lunenburg.

CFS announced that they landed two major accounts so far this year already and are excited about the direction that things are headed overall and in Lunenburg.

The following groups were awarded contributions from CFS following submittals and discussions between the county and CFS.

The Lunenburg County Library Association received $5,000 for both the Victoria Library and Ripberger Library to be used in helping as the library groups continue to grow following a split from the former Regional system. Karen Scales accepted the donation and stated, “We appreciate your thoughts about the children of our community and this is exactly how this money will be used. We are excited that the community is behind us.”

The Lunenburg County Health Systems received a donation of $15,000. Larry Roach, who is President of LCHS stated, “We do a lot of good things in Lunenburg. This donation will be used to help benefit people in Lunenburg County.”

The Lunenburg Youth Sports League received $5,000 with Mooch and Janet Johnson accepting the donation. Mooch Johnson said that the organization has been around since 1976 and services the entire county with sports such as basketball and soccer. Mr. Guidry stated, “Thank God that kids here have people like you in their lives.”

The remainder of the money donated by CFS will go to three of the schools as Victoria Elementary School and Kenbridge Elementary School each got a $5,000 donation to be used for new playground equipment.

In addition to that Lunenburg Middle School will be getting a $10,000 donation that will be used in putting up a new scoreboard at the softball field located beside the school.

Mr. Guidry stated, “It is interesting when you talk about making lives better for kids and we care about this.” He continued on to note that educators have played a huge role in his life and the impact from them continues in decisions he makes each day.
