lutz-named-2a-eastHARRISONBURG – The 2A East Regional golf tournament was held on October 3rd at Heritage Oaks Golf Course in Harrisonburg, VA.  Teams from Conferences 33, 34, 35, and 36 included Bruton, Central, Clarke County, East Rockingham, Greensville, Maggie Walker, Randolph Henry and Robert E. Lee.  In addition, six individuals from each Conference filled out the field of 72 players.  This year marked the fourth consecutive year that Prince Edward County student, Henry Lutz, was the number one seeded individual representing Conference 34 at the Region 2A East tournament.  Due to recent rains, course conditions were extremely wet, but the course was in very good condition for play as a result of the efforts of Heritage Oaks’ grounds crew.  Calm winds and mild sunshine made for a nearly perfect day for the 72 players to compete.  Henry Lutz shot a solid three over par round of 73 that included two birdies made, five bogies, and multiple near miss birdie attempts to lead the field and win the tournament.  Henry attributed his success to hitting a high percentage of quality shots that lead to multiple birdie attempts and to trusting that when he did hit a poor shot that his putting was solid enough to give him a chance at par.

As the medalist of the Regional tournament, Henry was named the Region 2A East Golfer of the Year and is the first seeded player on the all-region team.  In addition, Henry qualified for the State 1A and 2A tournament as an individual for the second consecutive year.  Randolph Henry won the first place team honors with a score of 306 while East Rockingham took second place team honors with a score of 313.  Both teams advance to the State 1A and 2A tournament which is to be held on October 10th and 11th.  In addition to Henry, the five other individuals that qualified to advance to the State tournament are: Thomas Otteni (Robert E. Lee), Taylor Hubbard (King William), Raul Viza-Fernandez (Clarke), Banner Robson (Robert E. Lee), and Gaines Swink (Madison).
