LUNENBURG – Next week is the start of American Education Week and Lunenburg County Public School officials are excited about the educators, students, the activities and the overall direction of the school system.

American Education Week is November 16-20, 2015 and is designed as an opportunity to celebrate public education and honor individuals who are making a difference in ensuring that every child receives a quality education. This year’s theme is “Great Public Schools: A Basic Right and Our Responsibility.”

During the school board meeting on Monday there were discussions about the high number of parents attending the recent parent/teacher conference, the work done by the county reading specialists, projects taking place such as the wireless upgrades, and plans for the new CHS courtyard area.

The local sports teams, the rising SOL scores and events throughout the four schools were discussed leading LCPS Superintendant Charles Berkley to state, “Lunenburg is fired up.”

He continued, “We have so many great things going on right now in our school system.”

School Board Vice Chairman Kathy Coffee echoed that sentiment stating, “I would like to say that we have heard some really exciting news tonight. All of the stuff going on with the schools – there are a lot of exciting things happening to be proud of.”

The group noted that there have been so many school activities recently that it was hard to keep up with everything, but the LCPS website offered a great resource and another recent upgrade. Board member Amy McClure stated, “Last year you could not even find us on Google and now we have one of the best and most informative websites around.”
