Spring Weekend at Longwood University is usually a celebratory time for students as well as those in the community to come together and unwind before final exams and graduation. However, on Saturday, April 12 around 1:55 a.m., Farmville police responded to Southside Community Hospital for an assault.
Longwood student Travonte Dequan Graves, 23, of Hampton, Virginia, was arrested by Longwood University Police, when he was at an off-campus house party in the 600 block of Buffalo Street, for striking a 19-year-old fellow Longwood student in the face with a glass bottle, causing a laceration. A felony warrant of malicious wounding was obtained for Graves. He currently remains at Piedmont Regional Jail under no bond.
In a separate incident on Sunday, April 13, officers found an 18-year-old male severely wounded from multiple stab wounds after Farmville police responded to a report of a person down on the sidewalk in the 200 block of Garden Street around 2:07 a.m. According to a press release from the Farmville Police Department, “the investigation revealed that the victim was assaulted and stabbed by a group of males in a nearby parking lot. The victim, who was robbed of personal items, was stabilized and remains in a hospital recovering from non-life threatening injuries. He is not a Longwood University student, but was in Farmville attending off campus parties for LU Spring Weekend. “
