Local Family Suffers Tragic Loss During Weekend Accident

VICTORIA – Tragedy struck a local family this past weekend when a Victoria woman was hit by a vehicle in Nottoway County and died at the scene from injuries sustained in the accident.

Virginia State Police continue to investigate the Friday, November 25th accident that took place on on Cottage Road about 1.5 miles north of Route 460 in Nottoway.

According to Virginia State Police information released regarding the incident, Connie Williams Irby, 37, of Victoria, along with three other people that included family members were walking on Cottage Road around 5:25 p.m. The four individuals, including her brother David Williams, Tyler Williams and Ashley Irby were reportedly walking toward Blackstone.

A 2013 Dodge Caravan, driven by Christopher Duncan of Amelia, was traveling south on the road and struck Irby from behind. According to information released about the incident, the area where the accident took place is not well lit. Virginia State Trooper Bruce Ward is handling the investigation.

No further information was available at press time as the incident remains under investigation by the Virginia State Police.
