Letters to the Editor

Displeased with Editing

A couple of weeks ago, I submitted an identical letter to three newspapers that serve the local area. This letter was carried in the October 26th edition. Two of the newspapers printed the letter as it was written.

The subject of the letter was abortion and I sat forth the position of the two major political parties relative to abortion.

However, the Kenbridge-Victoria Dispatch edited the letter in a way I found very displeasing. Five words were deleted, these words being, “God forbid” and “God Bless America”. Why these particular words? Surely there were words of far less importance that might have been deleted if necessary. These words refer to the Deity. We are aware of the fact that God, the Bible and its teachings, and prayer are a “no-no” in our public schools and other places today, thanks to our Federal Courts.

I called the editorial staff of the newspaper. His response to my inquiry was that these words were edited out in the interest of saving space.

Being a Conservative and a born again Christian, this action on the part of the newspaper in questions concerns me. As a citizen of a county that enjoys the benefits of free speech, freedom of religion, freedom of the press and many other freedoms, we need to be on the alert.

Freedom is not free, it must be protected. GOD BLESS AMERICA.

Wait and See with Trump

When Gen. Lee surrendered to Gen. Grant at Appomattox, the soldiers in the Union Army fired shots of celebration. Grant silenced them saying … The Rebels are our countrymen again … and I see no point in humiliating them. And so it should be with Hillary supporters. Shakespeare wrote, “The evil men do will live beyond them while the good they did will be buried with their bones. Whatever good things Hillary did while in public office will not be remembered as much as Benghazi, unsecured e mail and pay for play as secretary of state.

Hillary may deserve credits, but those credits could not atone for the abuse of the power of her office. The message that was so different between Hillary and Trump was made clear by Hillary herself. Trump had/has a message of inclusion inviting people of color to join in while Hillary defined Trump supporters as deplorable and unredeemable. That slap to tens of millions of Americans was hypocritical and in stark contrast to her, “Stronger Together” slogan.

Trump is the response to 8 years of Obama. Trump (more than likely) would not be president elect today had it not been for the last 8 years. Even so, there are now as many unhappy Hillary supporters as there are happy Trump supporters. We are a starkly divided country and yet, we are a free society because we do allow opposition to be voiced. Hillary, the Democratic, Republican party (along with the media) did their best to voice their opposition and derail Trump but, it didn’t work.

There were enough Trump supporters who have had enough of politics as usual. Those who voted for Trump may of done so biting their lip. Biting the lip was still better than gnashing of teeth! Comey and Loretta Lynch may not of held Hillary to an accounting but, the voters did. Obama had his chance for, “Hope and Change” that extinguished hope and if anything, changed things for the worse. Let those who like, dislike or who are skeptical about Trump step back and see if America can become great again. Voters destroyed “politics as usual” in this election. Let’s see what rises from the ashes!
