Foundation Thanks All  For Another Glorious Fourth

The Patrick Henry Memorial Foundation (Patrick Henry’s Red Hill) would like to thank our volunteers, staff, and supporters for another successful Independence Day Celebration on July 4th. The men and women of the Patrick Henry Auxiliary at Red Hill did a tremendous job telling our visitors about Patrick Henry and Red Hill through interpretations in the historic buildings as well as providing demonstrations of 18th century life. They also assisted with parking cars, admissions, and assisting visitors with golf cart rides. The Foundation could not hold such an event without our talented and dedicated volunteers. And once again, our staff did an amazing job of running a smooth event.

The Foundation would like to recognize our sponsors of the event – Wells Fargo, Southside Electric Cooperative, First National Bank, Halifax Regional Health System, and Point Source Audio. Thank you for making this community event possible.

The Presentation of Colors was carried out by the members of the Army JROTC from Chatham High School. Brittany Bowman of Charlotte County, proudly and eloquently sang the National Anthem. The Foundation is very thankful for their participation.

Citizens Emergency Crew (Gladys) and Charlotte County Rescue provided rescue squad units in case of any emergency and Brookneal and Phenix Fire Departments were on call here as well. The Town of Brookneal provided a spotlight for the parking and the Updikes (BSW) provided a trash dumpster. The support of these community organizations and businesses is truly a blessing.

Again this year we had a special treat for everyone: Patrick Henry gave his famous “Liberty or Death” speech and read the Declaration of Independence. We were so fortunate to have Patrick Henry Jolly, Patrick Henry’s fifth great grandson, here to recite his grandfather’s speech, talk to visitors, and wave to every single car as each was leaving.

We would also like to thank Patrick Henry Family Services for helping clean up the parking area. That was a big help since over 600 cars were parked in the field.

We also want to thank YOU, our community for supporting Red Hill – The Patrick Henry Memorial Foundation. We love being able to bring this July 4th Celebration to you. This has been a tradition in the community for the past 35 years and without YOU this would not be possible.

Sincerely,

Hope Marstin, Chief Operating Officer
