We all know that children enjoy playing interactive games available on the internet. They also need to be able to comfortably use a computer and cruise that big world out there if they are going to be able to travel it throughout their lives as they will need to.

logo-wee-notesIt is a parent’s responsibility to see to it that their child remains safe while on line. There are lots of safeguards to use. I won’t go into those in this column, but I would encourage you to search options that are appropriate for your child. It is also important that a parent make sure that their child not overuse technology at the expense of social interactions with others their age and/or developmental level.

I would like to share with you a few sites that have been approved by Healthy Families America that are not only safe for youngsters, but are fun and educational, as well:

Switcheroo Zoo at www.switcheroozoo.com allows a child to watch, listen and play games to learn all about amazing animals.

Nat Geo for Kids at www.kids.nationalgeographic.com helps young children learn about geography and fascinating animals.

Go to Into the Book at www.reading.ecb.org to play games that practice reading strategies.

www.abcya.com provides children practice in math and reading skills while playing fun games.

A child can hang out with his favorite characters all while learning at PBS Kids www.pbskids.org.

Older preschoolers can practice phonics skills at Star Fall www.starfall.com.

Storyline Online at www.storylineonline.net has some of a child’s favorite stories read to them by movie stars.
