Law Enforcement Torch Run® for Special Olympics Virginia Planned for August 9-10

Written by on July 24, 2014 at 10:56 am

The Law Enforcement Torch Run® for Special Olympics Virginia unites officers from law enforcement agencies and corrections departments across the state in an effort to raise funds and awareness for Special Olympics Virginia. Torch Run efforts to raise funds include collecting corporate sponsorships, selling T-shirts and hats, and hosting unique fundraising events such as Tip-A-Cops, Polar Plunges, and golf tournaments.

This year the Virginia State Police, Town of Farmville, and Farmville Recreation Department have joined together to raise awareness and money for the Law Enforcement Torch Run which goes to Special Olympics Virginia.  With the participation of your agency, we can make this event a successful one that not only shows community support for our law enforcement agencies and fire departments, but shows community support for our Special Olympics athletes.

The entry fee is $225.00; however, those registering prior to July 25, 2014 will receive a $25.00 discount.  Registration deadline is August 4, 2014.  Teams should have at least 5 people (ID shown) from their agency on their roster.  If your agency does not have enough players, you may combine with another agency.  It is suggested that each team secure a sponsor for their team; however, if you do not secure a sponsor, team captains should collect fees from players and write one check to “Special Olympics Virginia.”  The number of teams

participating is LIMITED TO 12.

The tournament will consist of recreational law enforcement/fire department teams from surrounding areas and trophies will be presented for 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place.

The tournament will be held at the Firemen’s Arena in Farmville, Virginia.  Directions/map is attached.  The tournament will be Double Elimination play starting at 9:00 a.m.  In the event of rain an attempt will be made to re-schedule the tournament at a later date.  Concessions will be available at location and will be provided by Southside Xtreme 10u, 12u, and 14u travel ball teams.  A percentage of the proceeds will be donated back to LETR.

A Special Olympic Softball team has been invited to play against a Law Enforcement Torch Run team.  Each registered team is asked to have 2-3 players (law enforcement & fire departments) who would like to be on the Law Enforcement Torch Run team who will be playing against the Special Olympic team.  This will be the highlight of the tournament where we all come together for the cause!

We look forward to the participation of other agencies in the tournament and all attending having a fun filled day.  Please come out and help us support Special Olympics athletes with funds and awareness raised from this event.

Lodging will be up to each individual team.  If you have any questions about team sponsors, rosters, team participation, organization, tournament play or games, please do not hesitate to call Kimberly Boettcher at (434) 352-3458 (work) or (434) 391-4584 (cell).
