Lady Statesmen Win in Regional Quarterfinals, Advance to VA Tech

Lady Statesmen Win Regional QuarterfinalsOn Saturday, May 28, with temperatures in the upper 80s, the Lady Statesmen tennis team hosted the Richland High School Tornados from Tazewell County.  This was the quarterfinal match of Region 2A West of the Virginia High School League.  The Statesmen earned home court advantage by capturing the Courthouse Conference 37 Conference Championship earlier.  In a match played to decision in a best 2 out of 3 set format, the Lady Statesmen dominated 5-0.  #1 seed Meredith Feinman defeated Tomo Yabuto 6-1, 6-2, #2 seed Couper Webb defeated Victoria Whited 6-0, 6-0, #3 seed Alena Latysheva defeated Haley Rove 6-0, 6-0, #4 seed Emily Toombs defeated Ally Goodman 6-1, 6-1 and #5 seed Helen Lin defeated Grace Damron 6-0, 6-0.  #6 seed Tyler Whirley was up 6-0 when the match was called.  With this win the team advances to Va Tech on Thursday, June 5, for semi-final action at 9:00 am.  In individual singles competition Meredith Feinman will be competing at VA Tech on Tuesday at 9:00 am.  In doubles competition Meredith Feinman and Couper Webb will be competing at VA Tech on Wednesday at 9:00 am.  The Lady Statesmen and their coaches are extremely appreciative of the record crowd of fans that was on hand to support the team on Saturday.
