The Randolph Henry Girl’s Basketball team had a tough schedule last week as they took on Prince Edward, Amelia  and Buckingham. The Lady Statesmen would suffer tough losses in all three contests, but continued to play hard.

In the first game last week RH would take on Prince Edward at home. The Eagles would grab an early 11-7 lead and build on that to halftime where they held a 7 point lead over Randolph Henry. The second half would see the Lady Statesmen climb back in the game as Cymirra Shuford hit several shots and Prince Edward only held a 26-24 lead heading to the final quarter. Both teams would have good offensive scoring in the fourth, but Prince Edward pulled away for a 42-35 win.

Shuford would lead the team in scoring with 12 points, while Adrianne Nelson, Leolivia Stanford, JaKya Pettus and Keirra Dodd all had four points on the night.

The Lady Statesmen would then travel to Amelia to take on the powerful Lady Raiders. This game would not start well for RH as they fell behind 27-4 at the end of the first quarter. Things would not get any better over the final three periods of play and Amelia claimed a 72-17 win. Teyha Pugh led Randolph Henry is scoring with 6 points while Tori Washington added 5 points.

The final game of the week would be a home contest against Buckingham. The Lady Knights would get off to a hot shooting start and jump ahead 21-4 at the end of the first quarter. They would build on that lead in the second quarter and take a 37-7 lead to the half. Randolph Henry would continue to play hard in the second half but the early deficit was more than they could overcome and Buckingham cruised to a 54-20 win. Shuford led the team in scoring with 9 points on the night.
