Lady Chargers Take Down Charles City

Lady Chargers Lady Chargers 1LUNENBURG – The Central Lady Chargers basketball team hosted Charles City at home on Monday night to open Conference Tournament play.

The Lady Chargers used great passing on the offensive end early in the game to jump out to a 14-8 lead. Of the 6 baskets in the first quarter, Central had five assist and played great team offense and defense.

The second quarter was a battle of Central verses Santaesha Hickman. The Lady Chargers would score 25 points in the first half, while Hickman had all 20 of the Charles City points. For Central, Dominique Turman-Watson and MyYonte Jennings had a combined 10 points in the quarter to pace their team.

The third quarter was more of the same as Central got great inside play from Ashley Genova and strong outside play from TanJaNeKa White-Freeman to lead 35-30.

The final quarter of play was a continuation of the team verses one standout battle with Central getting 10 points in the quarter from White-Freeman and the 55-47 win. Hickman scored an amazing 43 of the 47 points for her team, but the Chargers teamwork overcame the individual effort.

Central will now travel to Matthews for the second round match up in the Conference Tournament.

Leading Scorers for Central were—Watson (17 points, 11 rebs), White-Freeman (12 points), Genova (11 points, 15 rebs). Jennings (8 points)
