KENSTON – On a rainy day that caused postponement of many Homecoming Day activities the Kenston Forest Kavaliers contested the annual Homecoming Game against the Hampton Roads Generals.  The field proved to be very playable and the rains luckily held off.  The Kavs emerged victorious by the score of 14-6.

Both sides predominantly ran the ball so the game had fewer possessions and fewer plays than the norm.  Each team drove the ball but did not score in the first quarter.  The Kavs broke through in the second on a nifty swing pass to Elijah Warner from Tyler Daniel.  Warner scorched the Generals’ defense with an electrifying 50-yard dash for the game’s first score.  The Generals blocked the extra point.  After an excellent defensive series by the Kavs, the offense put another touchdown on the boards before the half.  Warner again took a flair pass from Daniel and dashed 20 yards to the General 6-yard line.  JEB Buchanan blasted over right guard behind the blocking of Tripp Jones and Thomas Hunter for the second Kenston tally on the last play of the half.  With the half expired, the Kavaliers ran a fake extra point with Warner tossing to Jeffrey Steele in the far corner of the end zone for a two-point conversion.  The score at the half: KFS-14; HRG-0.

Hampton Roads made adjustments at the half and decided to give up on the option and passing game that had proved ineffective.  The Generals took the second half kick-off and ran right at the Kavs, bulling downfield in a time consuming drive that used up most of the quarter.  They finally scored, but Buchanan and Jones stopped the two-point try cold: KFS-14; HRG-6.

The momentum had seemingly shifted to the Generals when the Kavs went four and out on the ensuing series.  After a short punt, the Generals took over inside the Kav’s 35-yard line, poised to score again.  They managed to get inside the Kenston 10.  On fourth and five, Sam Hodges knocked down the pass intended for the Generals’ receiver.  This turned out to be a huge play.  Kenston then effectively consumed the clock on two non-scoring drives, while playing solid defense, giving the Generals little time left.  Tyler Daniel capped the effort with an interception with time running out.  The final score stood at KFS-14, HRG-6.

For the game, JEB Buchanan led the Kavs with 96 yards rushing.  Tyler Daniel had 67 yards on the ground.  Elijah Warner had 70 yards receiving and 22 yards in returns.  Defensively, Tripp Jones and JEB Buchanan led the Kavaliers with eleven tackles apiece.  Kenston Forest is now 3-3 on the year heading into a bye week.
