kavaliers-fall-to-vikingsBRUNSWICK – In the second edition of the 2016 rivalry between Brunswick Academy and Kenston Forest, the Kavaliers came out on the losing end by the score of 30-6.  The Vikings were able to take advantage of Kenston turnovers to build a substantial lead in the second quarter and coasted to victory.

Brunswick grabbed the early lead after a long kick-off return, followed by a touchdown run.  The game had hardly begun before BA had established an 8-0 lead.  The Kavs struggled getting any offense going initially, and then turned the ball over on three consecutive series.  They had stopped the Vikings on downs each time, playing solid defense, but the third time was the charm, and the Vikings scored their second TD soon after the third Kenston misplay.  Brunswick then nailed the door shut, scoring immediately following the fourth Kavalier turnover.  The score at halftime stood at KFS-0, BA-22.  In the second half, both teams added a touchdown bringing the final to 30-6 in favor of the Vikings. A determining stat for the game were the five Kenston offensive turnovers.

JEB Buchanan tallied the lone Kenston score on a flair pass from Elijah Warner that Buchanan took down the sidelines for a 31-yard score.  For the game, Kenston’s running game was anemic gaining only 73 yards on 33 carries with 3 fumbles.  Warner completed 8 of 11 passes for 127 yards and one TD.  Jackson Taylor had 62 yards on 2 receptions.  The Kavaliers spent a lot of time on defense in the first half running only 6 offensive plays in the first quarter and a half.  Tripp Jones led the Kavaliers with 10 tackles while Tyler Daniel totaled 9 stops.  The depth-shy Kavs are struggling in part because four injured starters were missing from the squad that won their first two games.  The Kavs are now 2-2 for the season and play at Blessed-Sacrament Huguenot on Friday.
