kenbridge-pdKENBRIDGE – The Kenbridge Police Department  added a new member to their group of officers this past spring when Anon, a  2 ½ year old Belgium Malinois dog, was brought into the department.

Anon was trained to smell and find a variety of drugs such as marijuana, methamphetamines, heroin, cocaine and more.

The K9 officer had made an impact in Kenbridge and in Lunenburg with arrest from drug searches and more. However, the department recently lost this asset after a storm in the area with lightning is believed to have claimed the life of the dog.

KPD Chief Raymond Hite, Jr. stated, “During one of the recent storms we had come through the area Anon passed away as a result of what we believe was a lightning strike.”

Chief Hite said that the department is in the process of searching for another K9 officer to bring into the department after seeing how much Anon helped in investigations.

He stated, “He was a big asset to our department and played a role in various arrest and investigations.”

KPD Sergeant Aaron Peter and Anon went through a 12-week training program at the Powhatan Department of Corrections facility prior to adding the K9 officer to KPD.
