KENBRIDGE – Recent and past damage to town property in Kenbridge has council members discussing the idea of billing the people at fault. This discussion came after some recent damage to light poles and other property in the town.

Mayor Emory Hodges discussed sending a letter and a bill to the people responsible for such damage so that the town would not have to foot the bill to replace property such as the street lights that have been hit by vehicles in the past.

Kenbridge Town Attorney Cal Spencer said that anytime someone hits or damages town property they are responsible for the cost to repair or replace the damaged property.

Spence continued, “Most people have insurance and it will be paid that way, but people that don’t have insurance can be billed.”

There have been  some cases where the culprit may not be known, but in situations where a person does hit a street light and does not have insurance to cover the damage, the town is looking at recovering the cost of the damaged property.
