KENBRIDGE – Kenbridge Town Council members and the planning commission held a public hearing last week regarding a project and proposed rezoning of an area designed for apartments along E. 5th Avenue running outside of Kenbridge. There was no opposition regarding the zoning change that would make the area discussed an R6 location and allow for a seniors apartment complex to possibly be located there.

Dundas resident Wayne Parrish addressed the Kenbridge Town Council in October about this project that originally was discussed in 2008. The idea is to build an apartment complex in the Kenbridge area that would be designed with the idea of being a “seniors” location.

In the initial meeting, Mr. Parrish said that the location would be built on land in the area located between Kenbridge Construction Company and Kenbridge Emergency Squad. He would go on to note that the intention of a project such as this is to fill a gap and help keep people out of nursing homes.

The location and apartment complex would be built and designed so that it would allow older residents to have easier access in and around the location.

He continued on to say the project had been discussed in prior council meetings during past years, but the recession hit and caused him to put this off initially. Mr. Parrish said the final decision on who all will be involved as far as officials and investors was still being looked at, but the town would first need to approve the idea and check into the zoning area.

Following the public hearing, council members approved the change in zoning to allow this project to move forward.
