KENBRIDGE – Kenbridge officials recently followed Victoria Town Council and the Lunenburg County Board of Supervisors in approving a re-enactment of a march held in Lunenburg nearly 50 years ago.

Wanda Morrison spoke at the KTC meeting about this event that is set for next year as part of the 50th anniversary of that date in Lunenburg.  Morrison said that the date of August 13, 2016 is being used for the re-enactment and she is looking now to speak with school officials in helping promote the education aspect of this county historical event.

The original march was set as a demonstration against a perceived lack of hours available to vote in the county, but prior to the march, the Lunenburg Electoral Board changed the hours. The march continued on during the day on August 3, 1966 but it became more of a “thank you” for the changes that were made.

Victoria Council member Sandra Jones  and Board of Supervisors member Edward Pennington have both indicated that they were part of this original event as children.

Kenbridge Mayor Emory Hodges said that the town would offer any support, such as police officers to help with traffic, needed to assist with the event next August.
