KENBRIDGE – Kenbridge officials recently approved a proposed upgrade to water lines along Maple Street in order to supply adequate water to the new Maple Grove Apartments that have been proposed near the intersection with 5th Avenue.

The apartment complex is expected to consist of eight apartment units and a development company headed by Steve Israel has agreed to pay for and fix the water line issues in exchange for the town waiving tap fees.

Steve Israel and Ronnie Williams of Precision Pipes recently approached Council with a request for cost sharing for new water lines/connections at the apartments at North Maple Street.

The project would bypass a current 2” pipe and use a larger 6” pipe to bring water supply to that location and possibly other areas along Maple Street that include the Lunenburg Lightning football organization.

Israel said that the project is expected to cost around $8,760. Kenbridge Mayor Emory Hodges stated, “It looks like the cost of this project is a little over $8,000 and we have around $8,000 coming to us in tap fees.”

He continued on to note that the town is responsible for providing adequate water for the proposed project and stated, “This is a way to fix the issue and cover the cost without it having to come out of the town’s pocket.”

The town officials approved waiving the fees in exchange for Israel and his investment group covering the cost of the project.
