K9 Helps Officers Find Drugs After Traffic Stop in Town of Victoria

VICTORIA – A traffic violation in Victoria last week led to drug charges following a search of the vehicle. On Thursday June 9, Victoria Police Chief Keith Phillips and Officer Daniel Medlin were making routine walking patrols around the town and to local businesses.

K9 officer 1They observed a 2000 Nissan four door sedan traveling the wrong way up the one way alley along Main Street in Victoria. As the two approached the vehicle they noticed the smell of marijuana coming from the vehicle.

Chief Phillips and Officer Medlin were joined by Kenbridge Police Department Sergeant Aaron Peter and K9 Officer Anon in conducting a search of the vehicle. The K9 officer was able to find drugs in the vehicle and alert the other officers where they were located.

The two men in the vehicle were identified as Montai Mervin of Hardeeville, South Carolina and Anthony L. Williams, Jr. of Kenbridge.

Mervin was charged with failure to obey a traffic sign and failure to wear a seatbelt while operating a vehicle. Williams was charged with possession of marijuana and failure to wear a seatbelt.

Victoria Police Department offered a thank you to Kenbridge Police Department and the Lunenburg County Sheriff’s Office for assistance during the incident.
