JV Lady Statesmen Softball Continue District Play

On April 19th, the JV Lady Statesmen Softball team traveled to Nottoway where Cheyanne Newcomb, Shelby Meyer, and Anna Pasciuta were the only Lady Statesmen to get a hit in the game.  Hallie Watson got on base with a dropped third strike and Sydney Nichols got on by a walk.  In the fourth inning, Watson was able to score, giving the Lady Statesmen their only run of the game.  Nottoway defeated the Statesmen 7 – 1.

On Thursday, April 21st, the Lady Statesmen JV softball team traveled to Lunenburg.  Alyssa Rapole, Hallie Watson, Kelsi Letterman, and  Sarah Wilmoth got base hits in the game.   Hannah Pasciuta hit a hard shot to left center for a stand up double in the fifth inning.  Alyssa Rapole hit deep over the center fielder for an “in-the-park” homerun in the seventh.  The Statemen battled back at in the seventh but came up short.  Final score was Lunenburg 10, Statesmen 6.

Last week the Lady Statesmen JV softball team traveled to Appomattox on Monday, April 25th.    Hallie Watson and Leighan Payne got the only two hits for the Statesmen.   Statesmen fell to Appomattox 10-0.

Tuesday, April 26th, the Lady Statesmen hosted Bluestone.  Cheyanne Newcomb was lead-off batter for the Statemen and was able to get on base all four times at bat.  Anna Pasciuta, batting second for the Statesmen, was able to not only move Newcomb around each time at bat, but also score three out of four times.   These two ladies gave the Statesmen the seven runs scored in the game.  Hallie Watson had 11 strikeouts in the game.   Statesmen win with a final score RH 7, Bluestone 6.

Thursday, April 28th, the Lady Statesmen hosted Goochland.  Leighan Payne hit a hard line drive up the middle for a single.  She successfully stole 2nd and Chelsey Aliff slap bunted.  Due to an overthrow at 1st, Aliff was safe and Payne was able to score.   Payne was the only run for the Statesmen in the game.  Final score was Statesmen 1, Goochland 3.
