Juanita Weston Obituary

juanita westonJuanita “Nita” Champion Weston, wife of the late Raymond Edward Weston and the late Joseph “Junie” Emmett Weston, passed away on Sunday, December 30, 2018 at the age of 90. She was born on November 1, 1928 in Mecklenburg County, Va. to the late Arthur Monroe and Grace Coghill Champion. Nita owned and operated Weston’s Store for 40 years. She was a devoted member of Antioch Baptist Church, where she served as Chairman of the Board of Deacons, taught Sunday school, lead children’s sermons and was a choir member. Nita was the first female ordained deacon at Antioch Baptist Church, as well as the first within the Concord Baptist Association.

Cherishing her memory are daughters, Sue Sizemore (Wayne) of Skipwith and Julia Clark of Clarksville; son Warren Weston (Pam) of Red Oak; step-son Jerry Lee Weston of South Hill; grandchildren Kelly McCrickard, Wendy Bohannon (Timothy) and Brandon Cook; step-grandchildren Katie, Jennifer, Michael and Kyle, as well as seven great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild. She was preceded in death by sons David Hamilton Weston and Kent Weston.

Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. on Wednesday, January 2, 2019 at Antioch Baptist Church in Red Oak, Va. Burial followed in the church cemetery. The Reverends Jane Lyon and Kristin White officiated the service. The family received friends at Watkins Cooper Lyon Funeral Home on Tuesday, January 1 from 6 till 8 p.m.
