John Howard Scott Obituary

Written by on June 16, 2021 at 1:48 pm

John Howard Scott took his resting place with his Heavenly Father on May 31, 2021. Sixty-two years earlier, on December 29, 1958, he was born to the late Plenty W. Scott and the late Annie J. Scott.

John’s childhood home provided him with a faith-based foundation upon which to live his life. With that, as a youngster, he acknowledged Christ in his life and became a member of Mt. Ellis Baptist Church in Keysville. As he traveled his life paths, he remained rooted in the foundation given him.

After graduating from Randolph-Henry High School in Charlotte Court House, John joined the United States Army. Throughout his life, his employments were hard on the back, but he persevered, giving his best.

His family and many people called him John Harold and some thought that was his name. However, as he got older, he would correct people and inform them that his name was John Scott. Among his favorite pastimes, John enjoyed watching football (he was a Dallas Cowboys fan), going to drag races, fishing, listening to loud music, visiting with friends/cousins, and tuning into the daily news. John lived life in his own way without any pretense. He was kind, caring and friendly and sometimes could be a little stubborn and impatient. He was never fully dressed until he put on his cap, which he always wore.

John Howard will always remain in the hearts of his siblings: brother, Plenty J. Scott of Keysville, sisters, Frances E. Edmendson of Keysville, Joyce R. Doswell of Bronx, N.Y., and Brenda E. Scott of North Chesterfield, and nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

In addition to his parents, John Howard was predeceased by his brother, Joseph T. Scott, Sr. and sisters, Constance M. Scott Sanders.

A celebration of life service was held Sunday, June 6, 2021, 11 a.m., at Mt. Ellis Baptist Church, Keysville, with the Rev. Lloyd S. Wesley, Sr. officiating. Interment was held in the church cemetery.

Wilson Funeral Home of Keysville was in charge of arrangements.
