James Douglas “Jimmy” Holt Obituary

Drakes Branch, Va.

James Douglas “Jimmy” Holt, age 72, of Drakes Branch, Virginia, passed away peacefully at his home on Thursday, August 4, 2016.  He is survived by his wife of 51 years, Betty Dickerson Holt; two sons, Timothy Holt (Rhonda) and Chris Holt (Cindy); five grandchildren, Ashley, Gabe, Chance, Casey, and Carly; two brothers, Samuel Wayne Holt, Ron Canada (Barbara); two sisters, Brenda Toney (Wayne), Bonnie DeMuth (Jimmy); and numerous nieces and nephews.

Jimmy served in the United States Army from 1961 to 1964. He served as Chief of the Drakes Branch Fire Department, and was on Drakes Branch Town Council for eight years. Jimmy served on the Charlotte County Board of Supervisors for eight years, the Chamber of Commerce, was a member of the VFW, and a member of the American Legion.  He managed Canada’s Supermarket in Drakes Branch for thirty-five years; he then worked for R & V Mills for nine years before retiring.  He was a member of Mt. Calvary United Methodist Church.

A memorial service will be held at 3 p.m., Sunday, August 14, 2016, in Mt. Calvary United Methodist Church, Drakes Branch, Va., with interment to follow in Rough Creek Presbyterian Church Cemetery, Phenix, Va.  In lieu of flowers the family suggests that those wishing to make memorial contributions to consider Mt. Calvary U. M. C. Building Fund, c/o Larry Walton, 103 Bedford Street, Drakes Branch, VA 23937.
