I’m Afraid

Written by on December 23, 2015 at 11:03 am

As I look at the state of our country today I have many emotions, but the most appropriate for this occasion is to say that I’M AFRAID.

I see the country that I have always loved being “picked apart” by a relative few so called “radicals” for reasons that I don’t believe even they understand, and I’m afraid. They’re perfectly willing to enjoy our way of life and all the benefits and perks that go with it, including good salaries, nice homes and big cars. Yet they plan, scheme and take actions to destroy our way of life. And I’m afraid.

The news agencies say that these people have been “radicalized,” but while that is a catchy phrase, I’m not sure anyone knows what it means. I think it means someone that is now willing to die for what they view as a religious precept. I think it is time for all of us to become “Americanized.” We must be ready and willing to stand up for America and our way of life, no matter what the cost. Jesus told us in Matthew 5:43-48,  “You have heard that it was said, ‘Love your neighbor and hate your enemy.’ But I tell you, love your enemies and pray for those who persecute you, that you may be children of your Father in heaven.” Let’s love them while protecting ourselves!

I see this wonderful country about to be turned back centuries to the point that it is perfectly okay to hate your neighbor and take action to destroy him because he doesn’t look like you, talk like you, worship like you or think like you! Society has come too far for this. And I’m afraid.

I hear politicians say that “we’re at war and must hunt down these radicals and kill them,” yet I doubt seriously that a single one of them has ever been forced to shoot another person. I also doubt that they’ve ever had the horrible experience of seeing someone they have shot, fall, bleed and jerk in the throes of death. As a 20-year veteran of the military, I can tell you that a lot of training goes into bringing a person to that psychological point, and I don’t believe the average American is ready for that. And I’m afraid.

I understand that the head of a major university that is a center for Christian education has recommended that students obtain the proper training for Concealed Carry Permits, secure the proper permits and purchase weapons for their protection. Upon first hearing of this, I thought it was a great idea but after thinking about it I’m not so sure. A person must be 21 years of age in order to buy a handgun and/or get a CCW permit. Virginia code 18.2-308.2 should be consulted about the requirements for this. I am concerned that if a terrorist event should occur, that half the student body would be killed by other students not knowing how to properly use a weapon. And I’m afraid.

There is a real chance that a loudmouth, bombastic person may be elected President of this great country in 2016, and if not he, then a very dangerous, socialist minded, untrustworthy, “I’m above the law” female would most likely continue most of the dangerous policies of the last 7 years. And I feel sure she would try to advance the idea that the Government should confiscate all weapons. And I’m afraid.

There are far too many people that think they can rely solely on their guns to protect themselves, never stopping to consider the advancement of technology in communications and the development of weapons, such as drones, that makes mere guns almost obsolete. And I’m afraid.

We just saw people in California, so afraid of being politically incorrect that they failed to report their suspicions of their neighbors. The impact of this fear of being “politically incorrect”: 14 people dead, 21 injured!  And I’m afraid.

If you are adamant against guns, refuse to defend the freedoms we enjoy in this great country, grow silent in the face of threats and are willing to be slaughtered by deranged individuals, then you are part of the problem and not part of the solution! And I’m afraid.

During the Republican Presidential Candidate Debate on 12/15/2015 I had hoped to hear some “common sense” proposals for ensuring the security of our nation, but what I heard was more bombastic comments, silly arguments over mundane things, and tearing down of each other. Dr. Ben Carson refused to participate in this “catfight” and for that I am grateful.

I think that he is too cerebral and gentlemanly for this crowd! And I am still afraid!
