Hood Brothers Named Business of the Year in Lunenburg

LUNENBURG – The Lunenburg Chamber of Commerce held their annual yearly meeting during which they reveal the winners of their top awards.

This year the winner of the Business of the Year award went to a long time Lunenburg family owned business, Hood Brothers Garage, Inc. The garage and auto sales business is located at 11251 Courthouse Road. It is a true family owned and operated business that began in 1948 and has adapted and changed throughout the years to keep viable and growing.

Hood Brothers began as a simple automotive service repair shop in Lunenburg County and has grown to be a professional automotive dealership that contains not only a mechanic shop, but also a body shop and detail shop.

The company originated in Kenbridge with brothers Thorman and Robert Hood starting the business. From there Hood Brothers progressed through the years with brothers Clifford and Clyde Hood eventually taking over the company and moving it to Lunenburg.

The business continued to be a family affair with Clifford’s son, Glenn, working for Clyde in the body shop as he worked on and painted cars for the company. Glenn would eventually buy out Clyde’s part of the business and the father and son duo of Clifford and Glenn expanded and moved the company forward even more.

The family noted that when Glenn became part owner of Hood Brothers, there were only a few cars on the lot and he helped build it to the point where they currently have over 90 vehicles for sale today, along with a full service repair shop and a state of the art body shop and paint booth.

The business currently has over 10 employees, including Brent and Bryan Hood who have joined Glenn and his wife, Karen. This continues to make the company a true family business.

The longevity, continued growth and focus on family are a fitting combination for the company to be named The Lunenburg Chamber of Commerce “Business of the Year.”
