christmas-mother-programFARMVILLE – On Monday, Farmville Mayor David Whitus signed a Proclamation in recognition of the Heart of Virginia Christmas Mother and encouraged citizens to participate in the new program.

The Heart of Virginia Christmas Mother program is a non-profit charitable organization that was formed earlier this year with the purpose of serving the community by providing for those in need with food, new clothes, toys, books and other gift items during the holiday season.

This holiday season, the program is hoping to raise $20,000 to provide holiday items for 200 children.

According to a 2013 report by City-Data, 20.6% of the Prince Edward County, Va. population lives in poverty. According to Prince Edward County Social Services, that includes approximately 200 children.

There are lots of ways to be involved with the Heart of Virginia Christmas Mother program.

Donate items from the list below. At this time, they are accepting new items only.

Toys (newborn – 18 years old)

Hats/Gloves/Scarves/Socks (newborn – 18 years old, both boy and girl)
